Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Full-Day Game Drive – Witness the Great Migration
- Morning (07:00 AM): Your adventure begins with an early breakfast at your lodge. After a short briefing, you will depart with your expert guide in a private 4×4 safari vehicle for a full-day game drive into the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
- All-Day Game Drive: This day is dedicated to experiencing one of the planet’s most spectacular wildlife events: the Great Migration. Your guide will take you deep into the reserve to find the massive herds of over 1.5 million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebras and gazelles as they cross from the Serengeti into the Mara in search of fresh grazing.
- Prime Locations: We will focus on the famous Mara River crossing points, where you may witness the thrilling and often dramatic river crossings. Be prepared with your cameras ready for intense predator-prey interactions involving opportunistic crocodiles, lions, and hyenas.
- Lunch: Enjoy a delicious picnic lunch served in the bush under the shade of an acacia tree, or return to the lodge depending on the day’s wildlife movements.
- Afternoon: Continue your game drive, exploring other key regions of the reserve, such as Musiara Marsh, a crucial water source for wildlife, and the vast plains of the Mara Triangle.
- Evening (05:00 PM): Return to Jambo Mara Safari Lodge for some well-deserved relaxation before a delightful dinner.
- Accommodation: Jambo Mara Safari Lodge
- Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Day 2: Nature Walk & Cultural Immersion
- Morning at Leisure: Enjoy a relaxed morning at the lodge with a leisurely breakfast. Take in the stunning views of the savannah from the comfort of the camp.
- 10:00 AM: For three guests, we will depart for a guided nature walk along the scenic Oloololo Escarpment, the western boundary of the Mara Triangle. Accompanied by armed rangers, you will explore the ecosystem on foot, gaining a deeper appreciation for the smaller details often missed in a vehicle. Learn to identify animal tracks, droppings, local flora, and various bird species. This walk is an excellent opportunity to stretch your legs and connect with nature on a more intimate level. The walk will last approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the group’s pace.
- Afternoon: Return to the lodge for a fresh lunch. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. You can relax by the pool, read a book, or simply enjoy the sounds of the African bush. An optional visit to a nearby Maasai village is available at an extra cost, providing a chance to learn about their rich culture, traditions, and daily life.
- Evening: Gather for a delicious dinner at the lodge, followed by storytelling around a campfire or a quiet evening under the stars.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive for Two
- Early Morning (06:30 AM): After a light breakfast or a cup of coffee/tea, two guests will depart with your private guide for a morning game drive. This is the best time to see predators as they are most active during the cool hours, hunting for their morning meal. Your guide will focus on targeting prime areas to search for large cats like lions, cheetahs, and leopards.
- Optional Bush Breakfast: For an extra special experience, your lodge can arrange a bush breakfast for the two guests in the heart of the reserve (please arrange in advance).
- Late Morning (~10:30 AM): Return to the lodge for a hearty brunch/lunch and some rest.
- Afternoon: The remaining two guests can enjoy their day at leisure, making use of the lodge’s amenities, which may include spa treatments, birdwatching, or simply relaxing on their private veranda.

Essential Safari Attire and Tips
To make your safari experience as comfortable and enjoyable as possible, we recommend the following:
- Footwear: Sturdy, comfortable closed-toe shoes are essential for walks and uneven terrain. Sandals or flip-flops are great for relaxing at the lodge.
- Clothing: Pack lightweight, breathable fabrics in neutral tones like khaki, beige, olive, and brown. These colors help you blend into the environment and are less likely to attract wildlife. Long-sleeved shirts and long pants are excellent for sun and insect protection, as well as for warmth during cool mornings and evenings.
- Accessories: A wide-brimmed hat or cap, polarized sunglasses, and a scarf or bandana are useful for protection from the sun, dust, and wind.
- Insect Protection: Consider treating your clothing with insect repellent or using a personal repellent to guard against bites, especially in the evenings.
- Sun Protection: Always use a high-SPF sunscreen and a good lip balm with UV protection.
- Gear and Documents: Don’t forget your binoculars, cameras, chargers, and essential documents such as passports, visas, and travel insurance. It’s also wise to carry some local currency for small purchases and tips.
This safari will cost you around $1,990
